Straight & Narrow operates Mount Carmel Hospital, a 20-bed state-licensed detoxification hospital
for people addicted to alcohol, cocaine and heroin. The facility provides 24-hour on-call nursing
and medical services to assist clients in completing a safe, medically monitored detoxification
from these addictive substances.
Clients are referred to the detoxification hospital by local hospitals, community agencies, and self.
After completing an initial screening and receiving medical clearance from St. Joseph’s Hospital,
clients who are eligible for the program are instructed of the items that they should bring with them
for their stay at the detoxification hospital and report to the hospital to begin treatment. The
detoxification process is 5 days long. During that time, clients meet with a counselor to develop an
individual service plan to address the client’s post-detoxification needs. This may include referral
for inpatient or outpatient services in one of Straight & Narrow’s treatment programs, as well as
referrals for additional social service assistance.
The hospital also provides primary health care services for Straight & Narrow residents and their
children. This includes routine physicals, sick and well visits.
