Straight & Narrow Annual Auction Surpasses Projections

A challenging and difficult economic climate proved to be no barrier as over 200 community supporters packed the ballroom at the Brownstone in Paterson on April 28th for the fifth annual Straight & Narrow fundraising auction. Over $40,000 was raised to help support Straight & Narrow’s multiple programs for substance abuse treatment, daycare for children, housing for persons with HIV/AIDS, and other supportive family-focused social services. The event was Straight & Narrow’s most successful to date.

Reprising his previous appearances as event auctioneer, Straight & Narrow Executive Director David Mactas anchored the evening with a live auction that held the crowd’s attention as everything from sports tickets to an all-inclusive cruise brought competive bidding to a new level. Also featured were a silent auction and “tricky tray” that added to the evening’s festivities.

Straight & Narrow, founded in 1954 and headquartered in Paterson, is the oldest community-based organization of its kind in the United States, serving over 6,000 people per year with services for substance abusers, people with HIV/AIDS, those requiring intervention for driving while intoxicated, children in need of day care, and many others.
