Straight & Narrow Residents Assist In City Project
Residents of Straight & Narrow's substance abuse treatment program volunteered on March 29th as participants in a city-wide effort to identify abandoned properties in Paterson where the organization is headquartered. The day-long event, hosted by The Paterson Alliance, enlisted community support to identify and catalog the properties in an effort to target sites that might later be used for neighborhood enhancement projects.
Straight and Narrow’s residents learned about the history of the city while contributing to its future, gathering with other volunteers to unite on a quality-of-life agenda for Paterson. Clients expressed that the day's events were "eye-opening" and "inspiring" and helped them recognize both the city’s needs and their personal potential for supporting the community upon completion of Straight & Narrow's program.
Straight & Narrow, founded in 1954 and headquartered in Paterson, is the oldest community-based organization of its kind in the United States, serving over 6,000 people per year with services for substance abusers, people with HIV/AIDS, those requiring intervention for driving while intoxicated, children in need of day care, and many others.
