Straight and Narrow provides a late day/early evening Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) five days a week for
adolescent males and females from Passaic County. The program is designed to meet the needs of clients who attend school during
the day. Clients may be referred by the schools, juvenile justice system or by personal referral sources
Adolescents who attend Straight & Narrow’s Adolescent IOP have experienced problems at home and/or in the community and also have
been identified as having problems with substance abuse. Treatment is intended to provide structure, educate the adolescent about
substance abuse and the issues surrounding it, and develop the ability to think before acting or responding. Treatment includes both
individual and group counseling. Didactic sessions include education on alcohol, tobacco and drugs (ATOD) and topics such as anger
management, gangs, and ATOD refusal skills.
The Adolescent IOP is a strengths-based program that helps the client develop self-efficacy by identifying and focusing on his/her
strengths from the beginning of treatment. Urine screenings monitor program compliance, and interventions are provided when needed.
The client meets with his/her Multi-disciplinary Team on a quarterly basis to provide an in-depth review of progress toward goals.
In addition, clients receive the dinner meal, case management, assistance with work readiness, and referrals for medical and/or
psychiatric evaluations as needed.
